Chainsaw Milling

We don’t always use our chainsaws for felling and reducing trees, we also offer chainsaw milling. This is where the stem of wood in mounted or supported to keep it still and safe and the chainsaw is attached to a frame that can be manoeuvred along a stem of wood allowing the user to mill or slice the stem into usable planks or beams.  The frame allows the user to select the thickness of each piece of timber as well as ensuring each cut in straight and smooth. Our client requested that we milled a stem of Oak in to planks for future projects, these planks will look beautiful as shelves, mantel pieces or benches.

Providing this service for a local client inspired us to mill some of our own timber. We chose a couple of Elm stems to put through the mill; the process of milling is extremely rewarding. It is fascinating to get to glimpse the grain of a tree we have felled. Once the stems are milled the wood needs to be dried again to ensure it does not warp once it is used for its next project. These lengths of Elm may be transformed into some seating or gorgeous live edge shelves.

Chainsaw milling is one of the many services we offer.
